QA’S!
Who is this for?
EVERYONE (18+). All body types and abilities interested in exploring embodiment. All people interested in creativity. All people wanting to explore writing (academic texts, poetry, essays, and more) again or for the first time.
Is there an elevator?
Yes! But please email ahead of time to let us know if you need to use this to access the space so we can plan accordingly. There is not an ADA accessible bathroom in the building, however.
I'm nervous! I've never moved or explored movement with others!
Don't worry! It may not *feel* like you have, but you have. You've bopped at a concert? You tapped your foot on the bus? You talked excitedly with your hands? You've moved with others! And it is this very type of exploration we will harness together.
I can only come sporadically! Is that okay?
Of course! We might reference a small thing here or there from previous times, but the writing we look at and the practices we use will be new each time and treated as such.
I'm not an "experienced" mover! I am not a dancer! I've never done yoga! Can I come?
OF COURSE! Because guess what- you ARE an experienced mover because you are ALIVE. We are all living in bodies that move. Regardless of our various mobility types, our internal bodies are moving constantly to keep us alive. This is not a yoga or a dance class. All are welcomed.
Every Monday, Movement Philosophy will gather together to read writings (articles, poems, songs, essays, & more) and explore them through movement, the arts, and community. In an attempt to take the academy outside of the institutional walls, in an attempt to tap into the wisdom innate within our bodies, in an attempt to trust the wisdom of the land, how might we be in relationship to the text alongside one another?
Your favorite elements of a college lecture (the discussion), meets embodiment explorations, meets community engagement, meets reading circle adjacent!
We will gather for a small meditation and check-in, followed by a quick guided movement, reading of our texts together, discussion, followed by more movement, creative exploration (writing/drawing/making of any kind), before we close out with a final discussion time.
Sliding scale of $5-25.
Space is limited to 8, so RSVP!
RSVP is also necessary to send out arrival instructions, what we will be reading, and other important information prior to the workshop.
This is for all people wanting to explore embodiment, somatics, writings, world building/dreaming alongside others in community. All bodies, physical abilities**, and experiences to writing, academic texts, somatics, the arts, and more are welcomed.
Movement Philosophy is led and organized by Madison Mae Parker (MFA).
Madison Mae Parker is a queer, white, neurodivergent ritual artist and witch. Parker holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute and is finalizing their practicum to become a registered somatic movement educator (RSME/T) through ISMETA by way of the Tamalpa Institute (founded by Anna Halprin). They deeply believe our bodies are our first source of wisdom, our way to build another world.
