Community Organizing

Madison has been involved extensively with community organizing—from artistic communities, nonprofits, justice work, publishing groups, and more. Her life work is to remind herself and others that they are not alone.

**Louder Than a Bomb, KC**
2016-Present, Teacher + Organizer

Work with local high school students in the art of slam poetry. Led a team to internationals at Brave New Voices in 2017 and 2018. Assist in the organization of the festival in the KC area.

**The Open Table KC**
2019-2021, Resident

Assisted in administrative duties and curating events at the intersection of art, spirituality, and justice work. Led workshops and ritual events such as community looms and poetry circles.

**Write Bloody Publishing**
2015-2018, Vice President of Operations

Write Bloody Publishing has printed poets such as Sarah Kay, Andrea Gibson, Anis Mojgani, Clint Smith, and more. While VP of Operations, I worked directly with the poets and their agents on the books and to ensure the success of each project.

**Mic Check Poetry**
2014-2015, President

Mic Check is a 501(c)3 nonprofit in Bryan, Texas. Hosting weekly open mics and workshops and monthly poetry slams, Mic Check is a staple in the community and the first place I ever shared poems.

**Texas Grand Slam Poetry Festival**
2014-2015, Director

At one point the largest poetry festival in the state of Texas, Texas Grand Slam hosted 44 poets from all over the US to compete for $1600 in cash prizes and the title of Texas Grand Slam Champ. Poets such as Neil Hilborn have shared stage in College Station, Texas with an audience of 1200.

**The Eckleburg Project Literary Magazine**
2013-2014, Co-Founder + Editor-in-Chief

My junior year of undergrad at Texas A&M, I co-founded The Eckleburg Project as the official literary magazine of the school. Still in print to this day, they print a magazine each semester of undergrad art, poetry, and prose.

Beyond the publication itself, my goal for TEP was to be a community of artists to support, grow, and, and learn from each other.
